At Tyl, we’re fortunate to be able to help businesses grow and develop. We’re there at the ‘beginning’ and ‘middle’ of the story. The hopeful ‘plan for the future’ part. At Hospice UK, they deal with the end of the story. We’re proud to support them in their challenging work, helping both those at the end of their life and those they leave behind.
In case you didn’t know, our Giveback initiative here at Tyl means that for every transaction you take, we donate to charities around the country via our Community Fund. This was built into the way we operate from day one and forms a key part of our mission to help businesses and communities thrive. Hospice UK is an organisation we’re honoured to be able to support, and here’s a little insight into why…
Supporting end of life care across the UK
Hospice UK believe that everyone should die wherever they feel most comfortable, whether that’s under hospice care or through hospice care at home. It is therefore vital that they help to increase capacity and the style of care beyond the walls of hospices in a range of settings, as well as continuing to help the families of those coping with grief.
In this way, they can ensure that many more people live well towards the end of their life, dying in the place of their choice, and having the best experience possible for themselves, their carers, family, friends and community.
Hospice UK know that many people choose to spend their last days in the comfort of their own home surrounded by loved ones, but they need to make sure the conditions are right for them to do so. Hospice UK trains and supports carers and families to play an active role as co-deliverers of this most sensitive of care. This is why hospice care is important, as it ensures that more people can achieve what matters to them as their life comes to an end.
Caring through the pandemic
Since the coronavirus pandemic hit in the spring of 2020, Hospice UK has done amazing things to support hospices during their most difficult time.
The charity negotiated £325m in emergency government funding to ensure hospices could stay open and care for 6,800 people per day throughout the pandemic.
When the government restrictions forced people apart, Hospice UK created new virtual networks. This enabled over 500 clinical teams to share expertise and strategies to fight the pandemic in real time.
To keep frontline workers safe during this unprecedented challenge, Hospice UK secured and coordinated the distribution of 1 million units of PPE a week to regional hospices up and down the country. To protect their mental health as well as their physical safety, the charity set up round-the-clock emotional wellbeing support helpline through their partnership with Our Frontline.

Want to know more about Giveback?
The Giveback Community Fund is at the heart of our business here at Tyl: with every card transaction our customers take, we donate a portion to the Giveback Community Fund, to good causes. So, the more successful our Tyl customers are, the bigger the Tyl Giveback Community Fund grows, the bigger the impact we can have in our customers’ local communities – it’s a win-win-win situation. We hope to bring more and more charities into the Giveback fold as time goes on. Watch this space.
